A secure, centralized peer-assisted live streaming technology. It allows the live delivery of higher quality audio and video streams at lower costs than traditional delivery methods, while ensuring uninterrupted playback and fast startup.
BeCast works by using every peer participating in a BeCast stream to act as a server for another peer. This means that the main server doesn't have to send out as much data to everyone. When the server isn't sending as much data more people can connect and an increase in quality can be achieved.
Our technology is a centralized, flat mesh topology real-time streaming network, specifically designed to reduce end-to-end latency and provide real-time fast buffering service. Our transport is a custom multi-tier UDP based protocol well suited to real-time, lossless content delivery. There is no TCP fallback, and as such atypical firewalls or routers blocking UDP communications are not supported.
Our technology set includes UPnP NAT and firewall configuration and a superset of the TURN NAT traversal technology. We can successfully negotiate direct connections between most home broadband routers. We have not encountered any home broadband routers that we cannot establish direct connections through.
